About Witkop Safaris

witkoplodge outside Witkop Safaris is a hunting outfitter based near the small town of Paul Roux in the Eastern Free State of South Africa. Now also Trading as Balkan Venture Safaris in Serbia.

We conduct premium safaris all over Southern Africa & Serbia. Witkop offers hunting opportunities in the form of Regular Safaris as well as our specially priced Package Hunts. Regular Safaris are based upon a daily rate plus trophy fees for any game taken or wounded. Our special packages can be viewed in the Price lists section of the website. These special packages may be well suited to the first time hunter.

Personalized service, attention to detail, and catering to the individual needs, tastes, and preferences of each client are key to Witkop’s success. Our professional hunters are highly experienced in the pursuit of Southern Africa’s & Sebian plains game species as well as it's dangerous game. Everyone at Witkop Safaris, from the office and camp staff to the professional hunters is committed to making your African safari the experience of a lifetime.

Meet our Owners - Jess

Jess de Klerk

... is the owner and operator of Witkop Safaris. He is an experienced and seasoned professional game hunter and has been guiding clients for the past 20 years. Passionate about hunting and rifles from an early age, he sets the tone for all associated with Witkop Safaris. His philosophy centers around offering the client a high quality hunting experience tailored to that individual's needs at a reasonable price.

Meet our Owners - Cynthia

Cynthia de Klerk

Cynthia is Witkop's very able Lodge Manager and will insure that you feel at home during your stay on Witkop Lodge. She and her staff will look after your every need while visiting us at Witkop Safaris.

Cynthia grew up in the Eastern Cape and studied Engineering at the University at Bloemfontein.

Linda Bouwer

New Mexico Agent

Linda was born in South Africa and grew up in the Free State Province. Since childhood she has accompanied hunters on many hunting excursions in the Free State as well as the South African Bushveld.

Bill Gibbons

US Agent & Hunting Consultant

Bill comes to Witkop Safaris after retiring from a long career in Military and Commercial Aviation. An avid outdoorsman with over 50 years experience hunting, he is well versed in all aspects of his passion.

Bill has hunted in the Bushveld, on the plains of the Free State, as well as in the Kalahari and the Eastern Cape.

Don Pitts

International Marketing - US

Donald W. "Doc" Pitts continues to fulfill his boyhood dreams with Witkop Safaris as he retires from a 38 years of service in aviation, first as a fighter pilot patrolling the skies in the F-4, F-5 and F-16 aircraft and later as a commercial pilot, traveling to many international destinations on five different continents in the DC-10, A300, B-767 & B-777 aircraft. Don contributes his avid interests in weaponry and hunting to his father who taught him firearms safety, basic marksmanship and various small game & bird hunting skills "the old fashion way"...handed down father to son.

Jason van Aarde

Professional Hunter

Jason is a fifth generation Big Game Hunter. Jason's great, great grandfathers were ivory hunters in Southern Africa; one of Jason's prized possessions is the double rifle owned and used by his great grandfather in pursuit of those big tuskers. Jason was born and raised on a farm in the Eastern Free State and began accompanying his father on family hunts into Northern Zululand at age three. He started his professional hunting career at age eighteen.

Willem Gertenbach

Professional Hunter

Willem grew up on the family ranch in the Free State of South Africa. Hunting, fishing, and a love of the outdoors has been his passion and a way of life since early childhood.

Willem brings to Witkop Safaris his vast knowledge of South Africa's wild game, flora, and fauna.
